WELCOME TO THE BIRCH PTA WEB SITE!

The Birch PTA would like to welcome you to 2008-2009 school year! The Birch PTA is looking forward to implementing and revisiting past successful events and exciting new events this year and we hope that you and your family will participate in as many as possible. Your involvement is important to your child's experience, as well as to all of our teachers and students at Birch school. So if you would still like to join a committee, it is never too late to volunteer. Please refer to your Green Committee Phone Sheet that is sent home the first day of school and contact the Chair Person of the committee you are interested in joining to add you as a volunteer.

Last year Birch executed the new 6 day school cycle, this transition was developed to ensure that all classes receive equal time throughout the year in gym, art and music, etc. Since most of the coming holidays/school closings seemed to fall on a particular day, those classes would miss an enormous amount of these activities. The children were comfortable with this transition and change, though it may take the parents a little longer to get used to, please refer to the school calendar to confirm what day of the 6 day school cycle it is.

One way to become a part of the educational process is through participation in the meetings of the Board of Education. The Board generally meets at least once a month on Tuesdays beginning at 7:00 p.m. in Board Room of the Katherine E. Reif Administration Center located behind the Norman J. Levy Lakeside school.

Changes in the date, time, and/or location of Board meetings are available on the Merrick School District website www.merrick-k6.org or by contacting the Superintendent’s Office: 516-992-7200.

For our educational system to flourish, it needs the involvement of all members of our community.

The public is welcome and encouraged to attend and participate in these monthly meetings.
